Tocai Friulano is known as Sauvignon Vert outside of Italy. The grape originated in Veneto and is sensitive and high-yielding. The wine made from Tocai Friulano is high in alcohol and full-bodied with flavors of green apples. Tocai was popular in Chile, but only while producers thought it was Sauvignon Blanc. Once they discovered their mistake, producers replaced Tocai Friulano with Sauvignon. As a result, Italy is the best place to find wines made from Tocai Friulano. The Friuli-Venezia Giulia area deserves special mention.
